Colic, reflux and unsettled baby support - Cheshire & Shropshire

Advanced clinician support for your newborn when things are difficult, working through the symptoms of colic, reflux and when baby is generally unhappy & unsettled

Our Colic, Reflux & Unsettled Baby Clinic is led by an experienced Advanced Paediatric Clinical Practitioner (ACP) who provides thorough medical assessment, evidence-based guidance, and personalised care to help you better understand and manage your baby’s symptoms.

How We Can Help

Many babies experience periods of unsettled behaviour, but when symptoms persist or escalate, it’s important to explore the underlying causes. At this clinic, we support families with concerns including:

  • Persistent crying or suspected colic

  • Symptoms of reflux (silent or overt)

  • Feeding difficulties (breast or bottle)

  • Wind, discomfort, and digestive issues

  • Poor sleep linked to discomfort

  • Suspected allergies or intolerances

  • Parental concerns about unsettled or distressed behaviour

Our approach is holistic, recognising that feeding, digestion, sleep, and development are all closely connected.

A Medical, Evidence-Based Approach

Unlike general advice services, this clinic offers clinical assessment and medical insight. Your appointment will include:

  • A detailed review of your baby’s medical and feeding history

  • Discussion of symptoms, patterns, and triggers

  • Assessment of growth, development, and overall wellbeing

  • Consideration of conditions such as reflux, colic, or cow’s milk protein intolerance

  • Clear, evidence-based recommendations tailored to your baby

Where appropriate, we can also guide you on next steps, including whether further medical input or treatment may be needed.

Personalised Support for You and Your Baby

Every baby is unique, which is why we take time to truly listen and understand your concerns. Our goal is not only to support your baby’s comfort, but also to help you feel more confident and reassured as a parent.

You will leave your appointment with:

  • A clearer understanding of what may be causing your baby’s symptoms

  • Practical strategies to support feeding, comfort, and settling

  • Guidance on when to seek further medical care if needed

  • A personalised plan tailored to your baby and your parenting preferences

Frequently asked questions

What is an ACP – An Advanced Clinical practitioner (ACP) is an experienced nurse who has undertaken an additional masters level qualification that enables them to sit within the medical team in the NHS. They are trained to fully assess, diagnose, treat, prescribe and manage your care independently. Vicky is a paediatric specialist (children), so not only is she able to medically assess your baby but you also get the experience and compassion of a nurse who has cared for countless families in your position – Think of her as the best kind of blend between a doctor and a nurse… you get medical assessment and treatment you need delivered with kindness and care.

Can Vicky give me a prescription for my baby – Yes she can. If it is appropriate and the right treatment Vicky can write a private prescription which you can take to a pharmacy and get filled – the pharmacy will charge you for a private prescription. Alternatively, Vicky can include the recommended medication in your GP letter and you can request your GP prescribe this for you, this will be covered under your NHS prescription charges, which are free for babies.

What is colic – Colic is an umbrella term for a set of symptoms that babies often suffer from, it is not a diagnosis.

What is reflux – Reflux is where the contents of your baby’s tummy come back up the food pipe (oesophagus) and this makes baby very uncomfortable because it is scary for them when this happens and those contents include stomach acid too, which can burn.

What happens if Vicky decides my baby needs a paediatrician assessment or tests – If Vicky finds anything she is concerned about or she thinks needs further investigation during your assessment, then she will give you a detailed letter to take to your GP so that you can access a referral to the tests you need. Vicky is well known and respected within paediatrics locally.
